Girls on Key Press presents, The M Word by Newcastle poet, Gail Hennessy. Released April 2019. Pre-order now.
What do you do when the world as you know it starts to melt and morph around you, blurring the boundaries of reality?
In this poignant and heart-rending poetry collection, The M Word, Gail Hennessy takes the reader on a journey navigating the recesses of the mind. Written with humour and pathos, Gail documents her voyage through the realms of post-natal psychosis and unravels the narratives that informed her healing. A surreal and ultimately human tale of survival and resilience.
Gail Hennessy has been published widely in newspapers, literary supplements, journals and anthologies. Her poetry has won a number of prizes. In 2010 her collection 'Witnessing' brought many of these published poems together with new poetry. 'Witnessing' followed her Doctoral thesis, Testimonio: Witnessing my Mother's Life. Race and Identity in Twentieth Century Australia.
Her second collection 'Written on Water' was published in 2017 by Flying island Books. This latest collection, 'The M Word', is a memoir of her experiences of post natal psychosis, written to speak out against the stigma attached to mental illness, and to give hope for recovery.
