Gail Hennessy is an Australian poet who lives in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Her work has been published widely in newspapers, literary supplements, journals and anthologies. Her poetry has won a number of prizes. In 2010 her collection 'Witnessing' brought many of these published poems together with new poetry. 'Witnessing' followed her Doctoral thesis, Testimonio: Witnessing my Mother's Life. Race and Identity in Twentieth Century Australia.
Her second collection 'Written on Water' was published in 2017 by Flying island Books. This latest collection, 'The M Word', is a memoir of her experiences of post natal psychosis, written to speak out against the stigma attached to mental illness, and to give hope for recovery. Published by Girls on Key Press, 2019.
